The Story

Precision Marking for Woodworkers who Demand the Best

The Pilot Marking Knife is perfect for tasks like laying out tenon shoulders. Its robust 1mm thick, 8.7mm wide blade features a 44° included angle, with bevels ground to 40° on one side only. The back is ground flat so the point registers snugly against a straightedge or joinery element from either side.

Ergonomic ‘Liberty Wood’ Handle

The pencil-like grip and smooth contour of the ‘Liberty Wood’ handle flow seamlessly into a machined bronze ferrule, ensuring comfort during extended marking sessions. Three ferrule grooves enhance control, with the forward groove—4.75mm wide and rounded at the bottom—providing a secure, natural grip.

Performance and Feel

  • Zero-flex blade for reliable marking
  • Stout profile for standard-duty use
  • Balanced weight for control and comfort
  • Seamless transition when switching from the lighter Kadet knife

Handle Material: ‘Liberty Wood’

Crafted from compressed 1.6mm birch veneer, phenolic resin, and dye, ‘Liberty Wood’ offers:

  • An appearance similar to fine rosewoods like Cocobolo
  • Exceptional stability and abrasion resistance
  • Natural polish with no applied finish to wear off
  • A specific gravity rivalling Lignum Vitae for substantial hand feel

Specifications

12.5 x 150mm ‘Liberty Wood’ handle

1 x 8.7 x 36.5mm 44° incl. sword point blade with 40° bevels
